Euan Miller has been recruited by West Yorkshire Pension Fund as its new managing director travelling from across the border in Manchester. Andrew Holt reports.

The West Yorkshire Pension Fund (WYPF) has recruited Euan Miller as its new managing director as industry stalwart Rodney Barton announced his retirement after 12 years leading the fund.

Miller will join WYPF later this month from Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) where he was assistant director of pensions, funding and business development, leading on scheme funding, risk management and pooling of investments, with GMPF being part of the Northern LGPS Pool.

On his appointment, Miller said he felt “honoured” to be selected for the role and looked “forward to working with the WYPF team” and the wider stakeholders “to build on the excellent work to date.”

“West Yorkshire Pension Fund has built a great reputation for achieving consistently strong investment returns and delivering first-class administration for its own members, employers and shared service administration partners,” he added.

On recruiting Miller, Barton added: “Euan Miller brings with him wide-ranging experience of pensions, scheme funding, risk management and pooling of investments, with GMPF being part of the Northern LGPS Pool.”

Barton also praised Miller’s “deep understanding of the DB market in which we operate,” along with his background in local government.

“He has the right credentials to lead WYPF in the next stage of its evolution,” Barton added.

The WYPF is based in Bradford Council and administers pensions not just for West Yorkshire, but for a number of organisations nationally, including the Firefighter Schemes.

Miller has worked as a consulting actuary for KPMG and PwC advising trustees and sponsors on a range of private sector defined benefit schemes prior to joining GMPF in 2014.

He participates in a number of industry groups, both in the LGPS and wider pensions market, including the PLSA Local Authority Committee.
