Predicting the future is not easy. Yet if you are an investor, that is essentially what you are trying to do.

It is a task made harder by wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, lingering inflation, questions over where interest rates will go next and low growth in the developed world.

So as we enter a new year, what can investors expect? Our first edition of 2024 looks how events could shape economies and markets in the next 12 months, with a focus on equities, debt, private markets and ESG.

This issue also has a discussion on fixed income given that yields are rising at a time when economic optimism is low.

We also talk to the head of investment of Guy’s and St Thomas’ about how she is revolutionising the investment function of the foundation, while we hear the views of Professor Sarah Gordon, who is an ESG adviser and former head of the Impact Investing Institute.
