Ever increasing circles – mapping sovereign wealth funds

The above map, published by the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI), details the location, asset size and funding source of sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) across the globe using data from July 2013. The orange circles denote SWFs deriving wealth from oil and gas sources and the blue circles denote non oil and gas sources, while the greater the area of the circle denotes greater SWF size. As of June 2013 there was $5.474trn in sovereign wealth fund assets compared with three years ago when that figure stood at $4.107trn. This means in those three years SWFs grew by 33.3% far outpacing public pension asset growth rates, according to the SWFI.
