RPMI Railpen, the £28bn railways pension scheme, has appointed Ted Jennings as senior investment manager in its private markets team.

Jennings takes on the newly-created position of leading the defensive team, which puts him in charge of Railpen’s long-term income fund. The fund launched in 2016 and invests in less liquid assets with the aim of generating predictable cash flows.

On his decision to join the scheme, Jennings said: “RPMI Railpen has a growing reputation as a leading and innovative investor in private markets and I am delighted to be joining the team. This is a time of exciting challenges for the pensions industry, particularly from an investment perspective.”

Jennings joins Railpen from Aviva, where he spent close to three years as portfolio manager for the group’s Alternative Income Solutions Fund. Prior to that, he spent more than six years at Friends Life, initially as investment analyst and subsequently as portfolio manager.
