Western Pension Solutions (WPS) has beefed up its retirement advisory offering by appointing Jon Sharp as a director.

WPS is a consultancy that provides strategic advice to family businesses.

Sharp is the latest new face to joint he team after former Garbutt & Elliott senior partner David Dickson as appointed non-executive chairman earlier in the year.

Sharp brings more than 15 years of pension advisory experience to the role, where he has helped family businesses in all aspects of pensions strategy.

He joins from KPMG, where he was pensions director, and also has a stint at PwC on his CV.

Sharp joins the firm at an important time where family businesses are trying to manage their legacy final salary schemes, WPS managing director Ben Fowler said.

He described Sharp as one of the UK’s few “true” family business pension specialists.

“The industry has many unique nuances, meaning it is crucial to understand the particular needs of these companies – a skill that Jon has in abundance, along with his substantial pensions knowledge,” he added.

“He is very well known and respected in family business circles and will be a valuable addition to our work.”

Sharp said he was aware of WPS’ specialisms having encountered the firm since their inception and is pleased to have joined their team.
