Now Pensions has named Troy Clutterbuck as its interim chief executive with immediate effect after Morten Nilsson stepped down as boss of the master trust that he founded.

Clutterbuck (pictured) has been at the company for a year. He quit Jardine Lloyd Thompson to join the auto-enrolment pensions specialist after 15 years at the insurer and employee benefits provider, ultimately becoming its chief financial officer.

Nilsson founded Now Pensions in 2011, which today has more than 1.3 million members and 26,000 employers.

The board thanked Nilsson for his “contribution in building NOW: Pensions from the ground up to its current position”.

However, a statement from the company continued to say that “as the first phase of auto enrolment approaches its conclusion, the board has decided that now is the right time to make this change in executive management.

“In doing so, the board will help ensure that NOW: Pensions is well positioned to capitalise on its achievements to date and cement its position as a leading workplace pensions provider.”

Chair of the board of trustees Nigel Waterson noted Nilsson’s huge contribution not only to the success of Now Pensions, but to the whole automatic enrolment project in the UK.

“He leaves an indelible legacy in the UK pensions sector,” he added.
