Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) has appointed Mark Johnson as head of institutional client management.

Johnson will join the £902bn asset manager in September after 19 years at Blackrock.

In his new role he will oversee institutional client relationships in the UK, reporting to LGIM head of distribution Sarah Aitken.

He replaces Chris DeMarco, who joined Legal & General Retirement earlier this year.

At Blackrock, Johnson (pictured) was most recently head of closed-end funds. Prior to that, he was head of UK sales for iShares and head of Blackrock’s strategic team within the institutional client business.

Aitken said: “We are very excited to welcome Mark to the institutional client team. He brings considerable experience across a broad range of institutional clients, which will bolster our market-leading pensions proposition. His appointment reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering the best results for our clients.”

Johnson added: “I am excited to be joining LGIM at such a critical time for pension schemes and their members. The next two years will have a lasting effect on the quality of retirement in the UK, and LGIM is ideally placed to provide the support and guidance needed to help clients steer the right course.”
