The Universities Superannuation Scheme’s (USS) investment arm has appointed Bertrand Biragnet as head of pan-European equities.

Biragnet (pictured) joins USS Investment Management from RIT Capital Partners where he was a global equity manager.

He will manage a team of four and replaces Ben Levenstein, who has moved internally to join the newly-formed private markets group last year.

USS Investment Management head of equities Elizabeth Fernando said: “Bertrand is a fantastic addition to the equities team; he has a broad range of experience as both a global and European equity fund manager and we are delighted to welcome him to USS. His role is part of the ongoing development of our in-house investment team and the range of portfolios we manage for USS.”

USS’s equities portfolio currently makes up almost 50% (approximately £20bn) of its £42bn assets. The pan-European team is currently responsible for approximately 27% of the total fund or just under £11bn.
