RPMI Railpen has continued to bolster its in-house investment team with the appointment of Matthew Howard as head of property asset management.

In this newly-created role Howard will be responsible for the asset management strategy and enhancing properties within the £25bn pension scheme’s property portfolio.

Howard (pictured) has 20 years’ experience in the UK property market. Before joining Railpen he was head of asset management as Market Tech Holdings where he led a team responsible for the strategic asset management of a £1bn portfolio of real estate assets in the London Borough of Camden.

Prior to that, he was head of retail asset management at CBRE Capital Advisors.

Howard will report to head of property, Anna Rule, who joined RPMI Railpen earlier this year.

Rule said: “I am delighted that Matthew is joining RPMI Railpen. His knowledge, expertise and hands-on experience fit perfectly with our desire to deliver long-term sustainable returns for the benefit of our members.”

Howard added: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining RPMI Railpen’s growing in-house property investment team. I look forward to playing my part in delivering the returns that our members need through proactive property asset management.”

The appointment comes just a month after RPMI made a series of changes to its executive team, including the promotion of Julian Cripps to managing director of its investment business and executive director.
