The National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) has strengthened its management team by recruiting John St. Hill as deputy chief investment officer.

St. Hill (pictured) brings 24 years of investment management experience to the government’s auto-enrolment pension scheme.

He joins from the Pension Protection Fund where he was senior portfolio manager focused on bonds and equities. He has also held senior positions at wealth manager SEI Investments where he was the UK head of fixed income and risk management.

NEST chief investment officer Mark Fawcett said St. Hill joins NEST at a crucial time, predicting the £1.3bn the organisation manages for its members will grow “rapidly” in the next few years as employers continue to automatically enrol their employees into a pension scheme.

He said: “With this appointment we’re adding to the expertise and experience of the investment team at this crucial time.”

St. Hill added: “I’m delighted to join NEST as deputy chief investment officer. NEST’s investment team have built a really strong, award-winning investment approach. I’m looking forward to working with Mark Fawcett as the organisation continues to focus on giving its members a better income in retirement.”
