Aon has appointed Tony Pugh as head of defined contribution (DC) solutions for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Pugh joins Aon from Mercer where he spent 28 years, most recently as a senior partner advising some of the UK’s largest companies and DC plans, as well as multi-national companies, on their DC arrangements.

Prior to that, he spent three years leading Mercer’s UK DC retirement business and its European DC business.

In his previous roles Pugh (pictured) has advised companies and trustees of both defined benefit and DC schemes. He has also worked extensively in strategy and design and developed benefit programmes for financial services organisations.

Aon Hewitt, chief executive, EMEA, Andy Cox, said: “Tony Pugh has an impressive record and reputation in the DC market. He has continually demonstrated innovative ideas and skills, extending DC advice and solutions into wider savings which more effectively meet the needs of both employers and employees.”

Pugh added: “This is a tremendous opportunity for me personally and I am looking forward to working with Aon’s talented team to offer even more effective services to a DC market which is increasingly coming to the forefront of the UK pensions industry.”

This appointment is the latest of several additions to Aon’s DC team over the past year, including Tony Britton as head of DC delegated sales, Chris Inman as a principal investment consultant and Neil Latham as a principal consultant.
